The chill first winter season will still reward spirit and attendence but and no one's rating will ever decrease. However to encourage defensive play we will introduce uma points when calculating the match results.
Take the raw score at the end of the game and subtract 25000, (the starting points). Divide by 1000 and round to the nearest integer (0.5 rounds down). Apply a modest uma:
1st Place = +5
2nd Place = +3
3rd Place = +1
4th Place = -9
This is a very small uma compared to more competitive enviromnents becasue I still want spirit and attendence to be valuable.
Every players seasonal rating will increase by their final end game score (if it is positive) plus any spirit and attendence points.

At the end of a game, players points are converted by subtracting 25000 and dividing by 1000. This should result in four scores that add up to zero.
Each player's rating is the sum of all their postive end game scores plus 1 point just for showing up and spirit points for other contributions to the joyful mahjong experience.
